Site supervision simplified (GE 706) provides easy-to-understand information and practical guidance on implementing, supervising and monitoring the required standards of health, safety and environment on construction sites. It is the official reference publication for the CITB Site Safety Plus Site supervisors' safety training scheme (SSSTS), a two-day course for first line managers and supervisors.

Supervising a site brings a responsibility to protect the workforce and to remain up to date with legislation. Revised annually, this publication offers advice, checklists, case studies and practical guidance on what to do, as well as short, clear explanations on related legislation.

New for 2018

  • Content has been reviewed and updated, where necessary, to ensure information reflects current legislation and good practice.
  • The health and safety management system information in Section A has been restructured and includes the HSE's recognised model for managing health and safety HSG65: plan, do, check and act. Section A also now includes a summary chart on health and safety law, provides a link to the CDM explainer video, and includes a table detailing the HSE's red, amber and green (RAG) lists.
  • Information on so called legal highs within Section B has been updated in line with the Psychoactive Substances Act and a table has been included to outline the penalties for illegal drugs. Additional guidance, techniques and images have also been included in Section B to enhance the manual handling information.
  • A case study has been included in Section D to highlight the consequences of dangerous working at height.
  • Section E has enhanced information on ecology surveys, archaeology and heritage environments.
